Tom Byal
ES Teacher
My name is Tom Byal. I was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I have one older sister. Before deciding on education I was in the military and served for 6 years. During that time I learned a lot about what makes someone an effective leader or not. I graduated from UW-Platteville in 2008 with my degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis on Early Childhood. Since then I have taught all ages ranging from 2-18 in over 5 countries. After experiencing all levels I have found my calling in elementary. I love students’ enthusiasm, genuineness, and love of learning. I love trying my best to be a positive role model for young minds.
I’m the adventurous type that loves to travel and be outdoors. I love exploring new things and being out in nature. There are things I like to do around the house too though. I really enjoy cooking and like experimenting with recipes. I enjoy reading, mostly self-help books but I like a novel for fun once in a while. If the music is right, you might even see me dance!
Why did I become a teacher? It combines my love of children with my love of learning. I enjoy learning new things, trying new things and questioning the world we live in. I want that for children. I want them to fall in love with learning, I want them to ask questions, to reflect and come up with their own conclusions. Being around children helps motivate me to be the best version of myself I can attain. Getting to have in-depth conversations, being creative every day and getting kid hugs are all why I became a teacher!
