Science
Students at SCCS have access to an innovative, hands-on, lab-based science program
The program challenges students to critically think through the Scientific Method and experience science. Students collaborate in a laboratory setting to find answers and questions about the world around them. Units focus on the Physical, Earth and Life sciences utilizing Foss Science Kits from grades Kindergarten through Eighth. The program uses the progression model, meaning students revisit material from a higher understanding as they progress from simple to more complex. Teachers use a combination of daily informal and long term formal assessment to gauge student progress. We are accredited by the internationally recognized STEM Program.

Phonics Grade K -2
The Units of Studies in Phonics aligns with the Lucy Calkin’s Unit of Studies Readers and Writers Workshop to become our primary literacy program
This program is vertically aligned to allow teachers to use shared language as students progress through their learning life. Phonics provides multiple ways for learners to access knowledge which supports students learning English as a second language. This is accomplished by engaging students using classroom mascots, songs, chants, rhymes, hands-on activities, and games to create a joyous learning experience. Our ultimate goal of implementing a phonics curriculum is to support students as they become readers and writers.
