College Counseling

SCCS offers precollege orientation services for grades 9 and 10 and college guidance services in grades 11 and 12.

The college placement guidance includes career planning sessions for juniors, a career planning semester class for seniors, interviews and meetings with the college counselor, student participation at university fairs, and the visits of college admissions representatives to SCCS. Students are guided towards: SAT, ACT and TOEFL test preparation, the planning of the individualized testing program, the understanding of the application requirements for institutions of higher education in the US, Canada, Europe and other countries around the world, the use of appropriate resources for future college application decisions, the evaluation of personal abilities, aptitudes, values and interest for career decisions; the development of a junior/senior college application profile, college and scholarship search and virtual campus visits, interviews with college admissions officers, networking with universities, the fulfillment of graduation requirements and credits, letters of recommendation, the development of a preliminary college list and comparison chart, information on need-based versus merit-based financial aid and many other application-related topics.
